Tarun Samtani, Cyber Security Advisor from Express Gifts Ltd, was one of the main speakers on the 6th Annual Cyber Security Summit that kicked off last month in Prague. When I got in contact with Tarun at first, I was amazed with his enthusiasm about cyber security and the fact that he is looking for new opportunities to speak on relevant events. When I called him for our interview, I realized why. “In the last couple of weeks, I’ve spoken to over 400 people in the business. It has been an amazing experience. Today is my first day after finishing speaking but I am so glad that it was very well received by the business after my massive amount of work over the last few months”.
Awards, presentations all over the world, publications… Is information security your profession or your passion?
That’s a really good question. I would say it is my passion because my work makes me feel like it’s an extension of the research I do. I am not a workaholic, I just enjoy it so much (laughs).
Tell me a little bit more about your session and why “the cloud” is so important?
During my session, I talked about the main concerns that are related to moving our data to the cloud. I hear a lot of them from c-level people on a daily basis. 5 years ago, people were hesitant to move to the cloud. But now, everybody wants to be a part of that “revolution” so we need to put these concerns to rest, in some way. I read a report some time ago from Intel which stated that 80% of organizations today are moving to the cloud. It means that the cloud adoption is progressing very rapidly especially the last 16 months. It is the way forward and it makes perfect sense if you consider that many of these organizations especially SME’s (Small, medium enterprises) don’t have enough resources in house to manage their data & infrastructure. And to be honest, they don’t really need any!
In what way did this event help you and why will it help potential attendees?
I’ve been to more than 20 events in the past 12 months and I have to be honest with you it was one of the best organized. It was a big opportunity for me to meet other people from different backgrounds but with similar working experience about cyber security. It was a massive platform to network and to learn how other people are managing their security and their organizations. The speakers, the venue, the location, the way you organized the event. Everything was unique. You include a lot of different tracks and each track had well-defined content. It wasn’t yet another local event, it was an international event. When you meet people from different countries and different cultures, you learn more from them.
What are your expectations for our next event? What can we improve at our next event?
I don’t think I could say anything for the way you organized it! It leaves very little room for improvement because the standard was very high. The quality of the speakers, the quality of the content, the subjects, the topics, the location, the catering… Everything was spotless and all people from EBCG were very nice and really helpful.
